R league is it any wonder its going down the sink with some of the best players heading off overseas.

When one looks at the type of reactionary mentalities that not only administer the game of rugby league, but that also prevail over the general nature of the game itself as well some of the personalities that seem to hover over and about its television media. There does'nt seem to be much in the way of fresh new directions.

The game seems to be in a state of jaundice. So full of 1950's orthodoxy esp when it comes to the salary cap, as well it seems too sydney-centric, and is it any wonder many of the players themselves would not prefer to be out of the glass fish bowl and go abroad to places like France?
Esp if they're going to get more money.

They could think about mainly focussing on a sydney to queensland approach as it doesn't seem to have a lot of interest outside these areas really.

And all the heat sonny bill got from the falzone stuff I'm sure he's happy to be out.

It's a boring, uninteresting game which only exists because of Western Sydney (and even those people are moving towards AFL and football). Which means that perhaps the only reason the game is still around is because of News Limited.

You simply cannot say that the NRL is popular - I mean, a crowd of over 10000-15000 is considered great. Compare this to football and AFL, for example, which consistently get anywhere b/w 20000 and 80000 at games. And these pathetic League crowds are in spite of the NRL having the best merchandise sales of any sporting code in this country.

I don't care for League and I'm perfectly happy to see the NRL destroy the game by itself.

No, what I mean is that, if not for the still large following/fan base in Western Sydney, the NRL wouldn't even have got to where it is at the moment.

Have to agree with this. There is nothing exciting about this game at all.

There does seem to be a reasonable sized fan following in the east, but its almost non-existent here in the west.

Not when you compare it to the following AFL has.

I don't even think we see NRL on TV here.. but I could be wrong :dontknow:

STW shows it at the same time it always has, between midnight and 4am saturday morning...then they've always gone "live" at 2pm for the replay game ex TCN on Sunday.

And when they chuck a scrum, they're hoping to Christ the dude in front doesn't chuck a fart.
Wow, it's like I've died and went to heaven. But then they realized it wasn't my time yet. So they sent me to a brewery.

actually league just does'nt need to exist anymore. Really league and union should just converge. Thats only way they will ever compete with the other sports like soccer or AFL.

I think the Kiwi involvement is keeping it going more than anything else. It has a bigger following there as well.

Probably to the detriment of their own union code.
