Report on smh: Ten to announce Kyle to be sacked as Idol judge as well...

I'm glad to see that Sandilands idiot is finally getting the treatment that should have come to him a long time ago... I bet he's not feeling so smug and arrogant right now!

Yeah fully agree. He's paying the price for all his misdemeanors he got away with previously.
He should have been taken off air when he did a very similar stunt at b105 a few years ago.

Just going back to ACMA's "Cock in Sock" consistency with these issues have a look at this article...

Despite the calls for the show to be axed, inconsistent radio rules mean that 2Day FM will not face any financial penalties over the segment.

The government regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, has the power to investigate but will only do so if the broadcaster has failed to satisfy complaints.

Even then, the authority’s powers to penalise Austereo are limited because the code does not carry the weight of the law. The regulator is powerless to revoke the station’s licence or even to levy fines. Instead it will be limited to trying to prevent future breaches through either informal commitments from the station or enforceable undertakings, which could then create the grounds for fines for future breaches.

In contrast, rules involving sponsorships have been incorporated into the law as program standards following an inquiry nearly a decade ago into cash-for-comments scandals involving the presenters Alan Jones and John Laws.

Last month 2UE’s owner, Fairfax Media, publisher of the Herald, was fined $360,000 by the Federal Court for a string of more recent offences in which Laws failed to disclose his sponsorship agreements.

So despite who said what to who, and who did whatever else behind the scenes it really all boils down to these sorts of things continuing to go unchecked thanks to bad legislation - something for Kevin Rudd to fix, given he too condemned this particular incident.

ACMA seems to be a toothless tiger when it comes to FM commercial radio for some strange reason. If this stunt had happened on 2UE there would $$$$$$ fines handed out by ACMA whilst in the case of 2Day it's "not their problem - take it up with them" kinda utter crap.

My point exactly. AM and FM should not be treated any differently.

Self regulation will always end in tears when some imbecilic Boofhead & Bimb'O show liberate these gutter grade stunts :nutjob:

Apparently they were running (or planning to run) some other contest about who in Sydney had the smallest dicky-dock

They wouldn't have to look far... Miss O doesn't have one so it must be you-know-who :P

Serves him right. He might not have thought this was a big deal but that is the whole problem with this moron - he never thinks anything is a big deal. This has been a long time coming.

I wouldn't get too excited though. He'll be back on the radio in a week pretending like nothing had happened.

It's hard to take the ACMA seriously if they don't have the power to do anything. Even if they could do something then past experience with them shows us that a breach notice or possible punishment wouldn't occur for another 2 years... because of course they are so busy doing god knows what to act on anything sooner.

Is anyone upset that Kyle is upset about not being able to have a say (he and Jackie O have been silenced by Austereo)?

The problem for him is that no one cares whether he made a mistake with his response to this incident. This is just the final straw in a long list of stupid and pathetic things he has done and people have had enough.

He is supposedly also pissed that Ten dropped him from Idol... too bad, serves him right.

Sorry Kyle, your time is up. You only have yourself to blame.

Not really, many people have been looking for an excuse to shut him up and now we've got it. The silence is so enjoyable at the moment, I can't see it ending any time soon.

As for being dropped from Idol, perhaps that's a blessing in disguise for him. It's a tired format and people aren't interested in seeing more talentless B-grade no-names entering the music industry.

Radio rape scandal sparks major review

Quote

A stunt on the Kyle and Jackie O Show that led to a teenager saying on air that she had been raped has prompted a major review of live radio practices. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has decided to investigate whether participants in live radio programs are adequately protected, after receiving 137 complaints about the incident.

During the segment two weeks ago, a 14-year-old girl was strapped to a lie detector and quizzed about her sexual experiences by her mother and the show's hosts.
ACMA says the stunt on Austereo's Kyle and Jackie O Show highlighted broader issues about the treatment of subjects involved in prank calls, competitions and challenges on commercial radio.

ACMA chairman Chris Chapman says the authority will now investigate whether industry practices and the voluntary codes of practice for commercial radio offer enough safeguards for participants in live-hosted programs.

"We'll particularly look at protections with respect to children, which was so graphically illustrated the other day with the Kyle and Jackie O matter," he said.

He says the investigation will operate in addition to any specific ACMA inquiry that may be launched into the show's use of a lie detector on a minor.

"The ACMA acknowledges that the broadcasting sector should generally be able to experiment with program genres and styles which may be attractive to its audiences," he said in a statement.

"However, the strength of community concern expressed about the practices of some live-hosted entertainment programs and the ACMA's own assessments indicate that there is emerging evidence that the current regulatory arrangements may not be keeping pace with industry practice and community standards."

The Kyle and Jackie O Show has been suspended by 2DayFM while the Sydney station's owner, Austereo, reviews the practices of all of its radio stations. The ACMA plans to complete its investigation by December. It is calling for submissions from the public and the industry by the end of September. The 137 complaints about the segment have been forwarded to 2DayFM, which has 60 days to reply.

ACMA says it will look into the specific complaints if complainants are unhappy with the radio station's response.

Interesting that it took public outrage (samples) for ACMA to finally start doing what should have happened long ago.

O' well, thanks to the owners of 2Dayfm the "Byle & watch me BLO" show is back on next Tuesday and will remain on air while we wait with fervent anticipation for their next suspension after more "anal audio" from Kyle's "Verbal Diary" gets disproportionately flung around the airwaves with more of the same ole immoral sexual "inn-your-end-o" whilst the authorities continue to be dysfunctional with their cock in sock consistency over who swims betweens the flags and who doesn't

I'm guessing that the interview was given quite some time before the radio fiasco.
But what grates on me is that the media continue to give twerps as such and their incidents more air time and print publicity, thus maintaining the idiots persona in the public eye. And the radio incident is probably going to enhance the sales of the magazine - how fortunate.

*Hmmmm....... Starts thinking of conspiracy*
