A couple of videos from WESH once again :)

A promo informing that some viewers in the north and west of the current WESH broadcast area may not receive WESH once the digital switchover occurs in June.

and a few small problems during today's noon bulletin :)

A quick video showing the 6:30am opener to WESH 2 News Sunrise and the crossover to WESH 2 News on CW 18, followed by the closer to that bulletin.

The WESH 2 News on CW 18 bulletin goes to air on CW 18 when WESH goes to the NBC Today show. The same company owns WESH and WKCF (CW 18) so they show WESH 2 News Sunrise and the special CW 18 bulletin in the mornings :)

So what is CW 18? Is it an NBC affiliate?

You've just answered your own question - CW 18 is a CW affiliate, not a NBC affiliate which serves Orlando, Florida.

But I've never heard of CW... I thought the only FTA networks in the US were NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and PBS. Is CW a subscription TV channel or something?

The CW is a network that was created from the merger of the old UPN and The WB television networks. It's just like NBC, CBS, etc. The same company (Hearst-Argyle Television Inc) owns both WESH and WKCF (CW 18 Orlando), so WKCF gets a lot of news with the WESH branding - it doesn't have news on it's own.

There are also quite often commercials shown on WESH that say "Turn to our sister station CW 18 for (some show)" and the same thing on WKCF. In the mornings both channels show WESH 2 News Sunrise live, but the news continues for another two hours on WKCF after WESH leaves for NBC Today.

They're very clever at it too, because during NBC Today they have WESH news updates on WESH, which are presented live on WKCF too. It's executed flawlessly, but I feel sorry for the presenters who are on air for 4 hours straight :helpsmilie:

The CW is available on FTA as well as Cable so while it's not one of the big networks, it still has a fairly big presence around the country :)

Their logo is frequently mocked for being boobs side on and from the top.

Could you imagine the amount of people that would complain if news bulletins in Australia contained cross-promotion like that on WESH2 News.

I could just imagine it now...

Kochie: "And coming up tonight at 7.00 we've got Home and Away."
Mel: "Then at 7.30 it's Better Homes and Gardens."

This country is TV cross-promotion central. I guess it makes sense for them to do it because there are so many channels for people to choose from so they have to try to keep people watching, but I still don't like it.

A video of Ten news from 1990 from Melbourne on YouTube has "Hinch coming up at seven" in the sign-off, however that was newsish.

Another award for WESH - this time for their weather, and they even created a new opener as a result

I guess WESH are happy to get anything on WFTV (Channel 9) as WFTV are beating them in the ratings.

The opener is quite nice visually, but they are gloating far too much.

Hey, guys. This is OTownNews from YouTube. I'm glad to see interest in WESH 2 here on the forums. IMO, it's my favorite station in Orlando. WFTV, even though they're number 1 here, is a little too sensationalistic, so I'm with you, Kevin, that WESH will get anything on 9 until they're dethroned. For those of you whom haven't seen, here's some classics from early in the decade during the first Hearst Mandate - the "Camera Mandate", as you can tell by the camera/iris circles.

These from the transition from "The B Package" to the "Hearst TV Music Package"

Same here... they have the best local news of them all as far as I'm concerned :)

I'll have some HD opens from WESH in the coming days... just waiting to get the Sunrise openers in HD this week and I'll upload them all to Youtube :)

+ WESH 2 News 2009 Openers HD

They're all the same format but I included them all anyway - the talent openers are all different though because of the different presenters.

I would do the same thing for Channel Bodge (aka WFTV) but for some reason the audio on their FTA HD channel screws up and I can't get HD output from my cable box to my capping PC (yet), so no HD WFTV videos from me for the time being :)

WESH is 10 minutes away from launching their new 10pm news broadcast on CW18. The new bulletin (or "newscast") will be on 7 days a week.

Another 3.5 hours of local news per week to add to their already busy news schedule

I haven't uploaded anything for a while, so I figured this was a good enough excuse to do so :P

During one of the weather segments this morning, the camera decided it was time to leave...
