American TV networks sure love their brown sets!! It's sad to think that almost every affiliate does their own local morning, evening and late news yet here we don't get anything like that.

Yep, and all they do all day during other shows is promote their local news bulletins. Very different to Australia.

There is a fire station not far from where I live, so I can hear sirens all day long (I have no idea why there could be so many problems for them every single day, but there is). They wouldn't want people to call every time they heard sirens or they would have a lot of crews out wasting time and covering nothing.
WFTV is definitely a Channel 9

At Nine we're professional news breakers... - oh, the memories of that Chaser video:

Anyway, it's interesting to see how local television in America does local news & the quality of the bulletins compared to the major news bulletins.

Maybe you should do that one day Kevin & see how they react!?

As sickly funny as it is, you do ring a point. WFTV is an ABC affiliate, and near as I can remember, ABC and 9 have been similar in some looks. Examples - the "Striped Globe" motif and "Cool Hand Luke" theme [the actual theme is called "The Tar Sequence"] from (National) Nine News are taken from the ABC News/ABC O&O local news operations, and the "Still the One" promotional campaigns are taken from the ABC promo campaigns of '77 and '79.
On a completely different note, WFTV recently got a graphics update. Edges are curved, dark blue/violet and orange are seen, and production music replaces the "Eyewitness News" cut used (yes, the theme they use is called "Eyewitness News")

Nine in Australia has been partnered with ABC for a long time which is why there were a lot similarities between the two. It's the same with Seven and NBC (same news theme and jingles in the early days).

Somewhat better than the last attempt but I can't stand WFTV.
As you said in the WESH topic, they're too sensationalist and I can't stand the presenters (or anchors as you lot like to call them
I am surprised that WFTV dropped their News at 4pm though.
I just don't understand how in the world WFTV is beating WESH for news in the ratings. It makes no sense

Actually, for years, WFTV has aired Oprah at 4. It's how they stayed #1 for so long. (eyes roll - nothing against Oprah, though) And I couldn't agree more with you on how the news is on 9. Interaction is nil, teases are nothing but prerecorded with more emphasis on graphics (AGGRAVATING!), and they seem to believe "screw the 'good evenings' and 'goodbyes', let's just run through the news and not ask questions because we're anchors and, therefore, above the reporters!" But really, it's all consultants and focus groups - they follow them like loyal dogs. Unfortunately, pretty much over half of Central Florida, including my family, is Channel 9 people. Crying shame, really. Maybe if WESH changed to ABC and WFTV changed to NBC... well, affiliate switches HAVE happened before.

Really? Shows how much I know
I know WESH were recently promoting they now have the only local news at 4pm... to me it seemed like one of the others had recently dropped their 4pm bulletin - I just assumed it was WFTV

Pretty much sums up what I think

I doubt we'll see an affiliation change any time soon but even without that happening WESH still have a good chance to give WFTV a run for their money. They've both made a number of changes recently and I can't say WFTV have done anything impressive.
WESH dropping 'Weather Plus' forced the creation of the new openers which are much better than the old ones (in my opinion anyway) and they're doing a much better job of promoting themselves now.
If CFL is anything like Perth then WESH have no chance because people don't like to change their viewing habits

Actually, WKMG had a 4:00 newscast for a while. But - sign of the budgets - they axed the 4:00, 5:00 and 5:30 and created the only hour-long 6:00 in Central Florida. Reason for WOFL to do a new campaign - "More News, Not Fewer Choices".

And trust me, WFTV has been the champ for years - over 25 years as the #1 6:00 news. It's not gonna happen. At least, not anytime soon.
