Interesting idea for a website :)

Is this a spin off from what the other site used to do with their mock stations or does it have nothing to do with them?

No, it has nothing to do with the `other site`. There used to be a website called Fantasy TV America. That Died and ProTV Launched. That site got hacked and this site launched.

So FTA did close. :(

Anyway, the new site looks interesting. I might join if I work out all the Rules and Guidelines. :)

I'm a member on that website (LightWave) & it's not bad, although there has been a bit of fighting going on between certain companies at the moment - hopefully that will end soon.

Gee, this is familiar!

At least it doesn't involve Big Brother this time round.

Either a crappy password or dodgy/out-of-date forum software to blame for that. I've never heard of MyBB before

I'm not a fan of free forum software because they have no QA or decent testers out there to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen.

IPB is bloody expensive though and really isn't cost effective unless you have a large forum with ads.

Expensive for a web app, that is.

I guess it depends on each person's definition of expensive. As someone who has developed of a lot web applications for companies, I can tell you that IPB is extremely cheap. For the original product (which is a quality product anyway) and the amount of updates they push out, the price is most definitely worth it - but that's just my opinion. Quality software takes time to write, test and support and that doesn't come cheaply for the company supplying it.

Granted it may be out of reach for small sites but there are better alternatives than no-name forum software. Even that horrid thing called phpBB is better than most of the free crap out there but even that has its major flaws and an extremely poor security record.

I guess you get what you pay for. Sure, IPB may be expensive for a small site, but it's far less likely to be hacked than the free ones.

I think the owner of that site has learned that he needs to keep backups off the server and keep them up-to-date too. I read that he was doing backups but they were all on the server and were cleared out by the 'hacker'. A lesson that sadly has to be learnt from time to time. I doubt he'll let that happen again :)

Yer, it seems like a group of people (who were unhappy with something) accessed the 'TVU Bank' account (where companies pay payroll, etc) to which is an administrator account & allowed the person/s to delete the forum, back-ups along with blocking members.

I agree with you on the first point, especially considering the amount of paid staff they have working on it.

The main point I was trying to make was the second above.
