Al Jazeera English

Its also near to that time again, Al Jazeera English's third birthday! I was researching on the internet a couple of days ago and came across some news about the sister channel Al Jazeera Arabic, apparently in early November its getting a complete new look - new studio, graphics, music etc. The thing I liked is the new tagline 'Where the Sun Never Sets' - sounds a bit more suited to AJE!

Came across this (amazing) video promoting the new AJA newsroom set:

That is sad news...but i just saw her on the newshour in London...lets hope she freelances regularly on AJE...
On a more positive note- new graphics for AJA today- 2000 GMT is the 'launch'...I wonder if there is anything planned for AJE on Nov 15?

Especially the new music, seriously, AJE should adopt it.
Another thing I like is the studio, the main bulletin has this wonderful 'space age' type set, lots of metal and silver and a lovely big globe on the newswall

Nice graphics too, a little AJE I think!

new look newsroom

and lovely titles

AJE made some changes to their website a couple weeks ago...a bit more organized showing the various sections like 'Blogs' more clearly.. (blogs being an excellent addition to AJE online)
only a couple more days until Al Jazeera English turns 3...it doesn't feel like 3 years already though!

anyone notice the climate chnage 'SOS' logo AJE had during the Copenhagen summit? nice touch to the very extensive and international coverage
looking forward to the 'what to expect next year' coverage that there's been a promo for, as well as the 5 Years on from the Tsunami and 1 year after the War on Gaza news specials that there's been promos for as well..
have to say that I've enjoyed counting the cost - though its now finished for the year- especially liked the shows that came from Dubai- the whole series has been fast paced at times and the fresh views, as well as informal tone make it very watchable

Good to hear mjismail. There's been a concerted effort on CTC to make it more than just a compendium of AJE's business stories, and more of its own show. Also we wanted it to be more chatty and loose, to make business news more digestable. The Dubai story was a godsend because it was so close to us in Doha, and was such good content. Also the Dubai Airshow provided great interviews and pictures.
Looking to expand the show again in 2010

Sebastian Walker, Rob Reynolds, Zeina Khodr, Tony Birtley and Teresa Bo...probably missing one or two there too- so obviously a major presence by AJE...
interesting interview with John O'Shea, the founder of the GOAL...available on the website
No 'anchors' sent though, which seems like a trend other news channels have been following- but the correspondents on the ground are all more than capable and have been doing an excellent job...
Interesting to note that all news channels this time round, at least from my general impression, seem to show fairly graphic images during the first few days of the earthquake- good decisions too- allows the actual scale and obviously awful situation on the ground to be more easily seen...
The decision on the graphics side to put up the 'News Update' orange strip also makes the continuous coverage of Haiti more distinct from the 'rest of the day's news'...
The Blogs section also came alive with live updates on the first day or two after the earthquake...
so overall, as expected of AJE, excellent coverage...

Anyway the main thing is the coverage - and AJE has done well with the Haiti story. Also good to see the republican story from the U.S. being high on the agenda.

good addition
AJE up for the RTS News Channel of the Year award tonight- they definitely deserve to win- especially with the amounts of exclusives they had last year with the war on Gaza etc.. and also for their generally excellent int. coverage!
Also the 'Rageh Omaar Reports' starts tonight... and Iraq elections coming up- should be interesting to see how AJE cover that, not least because of their apparent restrictions in Iraq/Baghdad (?)
