You're photographing such places because... err... well... you're doing a special edition of the Listening Post. Cartman asked you to take photos... and you listened. :D

Hi Everyone,
(Hope this hasn't been answered already) How do you receive AJE in Australia? I understand it's available on cable through TransAct but is it available on satellite? Pay Tv or anything? I'm in Tassie and a little interested.

If you download livestation you can watch it online but unless you have TransAct or have set up your own satellite you it's very hard to watch it.
Apparently AJE is now widely available on US cable networks so Australia is one of their last frontiers!
With the new satellite going up today with a bit of luck Foxtel will pick it up.

Just looked on Lyngsat and it seems AJE is available on Optus C1 unencrypted It's a part of the Austar package so I'm surprised Austar didn't encrypt it.

Correct, AJE is available unencrypted on C1 however it's not a FOXTEL or Austar channel, it's just on the same satellite. It's a hidden channel though so you need the PIDs from Lyngsat to tune it in.

There is no excuse for FOXTEL and Austar not to feature AJE because it's already there. They just choose not to.

Hope you don't mind me asking but what are PID's? and how do you get them?
EDIT: Found them on the AJE site. Why is it hidden? wouldn't they want people to watch it?

It's that time of the year again...UN General Assembly
As usual, very comprehensive, and as usual excellent, coverage on AJE- Ghida Fakhry is yet again anchoring from New York from the 1800GMT newshour- Mike Hanna reporting before 1800...
was good to see Ayman Moheyldin also in NY- he was reporting on the ME trilateral meeting- testament to the AJ policy of not 'parachuting' random reporters in :)
AJE decided to come in and out towards the end of Gaddafi's never ending 1.5 hr speech!
Interesting to see how the Iranian President's speech goes...
On another note, CNN looks to have gained an exclusive interview with Mugabe on their new show 'Amanpour.' on Thursday - personally, I think Amanpour is a lot better of on the ground/field reporting... ...not that that matters: AJE is still by far the best :)
Any news of exclusive interviews on AJE during the GA?

The UN coverage has been fantastic and they have been interviewing some excellent guests too.

They do have some poor connectivity though because their live crosses are badly suffering delays - and in both directions too. It's not just a delay for the guest, but also for the presenter as well. Very slow between questions as they wait for each other to finish talking.

I'm surprised about the New York side being delayed considering they should have plenty of non-satellite bandwidth options available to them in the US. It almost seems like the New York live feed is being sent back to Doha via satellite rather than using something locally and sending the feed to Washington DC where it could go to Doha via fibre or whatever they use. At least it seems that way but I could be completely off the mark.

Otherwise everything is great about this coverage

AJE just had a report from former Seven reporter Aela Callan (about something in Thailand).

I picked up on the Aussie accent immediately and knew I had heard it before but couldn't work out who it was until she had a piece to camera in there :P

I saw the AJE logo used during the media launch today so one would assume that FOXTEL will be carrying AJE from mid-November. Posted Image

I noticed Lauren Taylor presenting in London the other day, I hope she returns back to Doha. I really think shes improved since becoming an anchor, because you have to remember she was only an enonomics correspondent at ITV News.

Its also near to that time again, Al Jazeera English's third birthday! I was researching on the internet a couple of days ago and came across some news about the sister channel Al Jazeera Arabic, apparently in early November its getting a complete new look - new studio, graphics, music etc. The thing I liked is the new tagline 'Where the Sun Never Sets' - sounds a bit more suited to AJE!

Came across this (amazing) video promoting the new AJA newsroom set:

AJ adverts are always the best! :)

Interesting to see if there is any changes planned at Al Jazeera English...insider info welcomed...3-4 weeks is a long wait! :)

Some bad news - looks as if Lauren Taylor has left AJE and is now a freelance presenter, she was just reading the business news on Sky News :(

That is sad news...but i just saw her on the newshour in London...lets hope she freelances regularly on AJE...

On a more positive note- new graphics for AJA today- 2000 GMT is the 'launch'...I wonder if there is anything planned for AJE on Nov 15?

Yes, Al Jazeera Arabic relaunched today and surprisingly I really like it

Especially the new music, seriously, AJE should adopt it.

Another thing I like is the studio, the main bulletin has this wonderful 'space age' type set, lots of metal and silver and a lovely big globe on the newswall

Nice graphics too, a little AJE I think!

I'm liking the new AJA graphic too :) some similarities with AJE
AJE made some changes to their website a couple weeks ago...a bit more organized showing the various sections like 'Blogs' more clearly.. (blogs being an excellent addition to AJE online)
only a couple more days until Al Jazeera English turns 3...it doesn't feel like 3 years already though!

bit quiet on the forum recently..
anyone notice the climate chnage 'SOS' logo AJE had during the Copenhagen summit? nice touch to the very extensive and international coverage :)
looking forward to the 'what to expect next year' coverage that there's been a promo for, as well as the 5 Years on from the Tsunami and 1 year after the War on Gaza news specials that there's been promos for as well..
have to say that I've enjoyed counting the cost - though its now finished for the year- especially liked the shows that came from Dubai- the whole series has been fast paced at times and the fresh views, as well as informal tone make it very watchable :)

I noticed Hoda Abdel-Hamid presenting Inside Story yesterday. I think she done a great job, she seems to have a lot of experience and shes actually rarely used, so this is a good move.

Good to hear mjismail. There's been a concerted effort on CTC to make it more than just a compendium of AJE's business stories, and more of its own show. Also we wanted it to be more chatty and loose, to make business news more digestable. The Dubai story was a godsend because it was so close to us in Doha, and was such good content. Also the Dubai Airshow provided great interviews and pictures.

Looking to expand the show again in 2010 :)
