Funny goings on in Brisbane radio amid speculation of the a launch date for Nova106.9

The new station was responsible for relegating B105 to 2nd position for the first time in 10 years as loyal listeners switched to sample Nova - meaning MMM took out the top spot.

In some what of a surprise - long time Breakfast co-host on B105 Ian Skippen is now on "The Cage" on MMM, their Breakfast show - in direct competition (and in fact, in the same building) as his former co-hosts on B105.

The big star of Brisbane Radio at the moment is Bevan - Nova's work experience radio jockey who, until recently, was Nova's only on air personality. He is hilarious, and has been entertaining Brisbane since Nova's unofficial launch late last year. Now we also have have chopped up version of Merrick and Russo's breakfast show from 5pm - 6pm in the afternoon.

Some interesting times ahead - many say Nova can get about 10% in their first ratings survey. I would predict they'll come close to winning.

Well in Melbourne Nova debuted at number 1 believe it or not :)
It still is the leader in the FM band, with GoldFM following!

Is Seven News still simulcasted on that radio station??

I was really pissed when I heard that NOVA was going up in Brisbane... 6 months after I left Brisbane. I really wanted to sample NOVA when I was actually living in a metro area. The 2 years I was up in brisbane was the period that the other 4 big cities of Australia had NOVA and Brisbane didn't. I'm over that now. I work in Sydney now, so Tuning into NOVA is very easy ;)

Did anyone hear about the Jason Akermanis on 98.9FM? Apparently he called the producers "Monkeys" for cutting their show by 1/2 hour.

How was Nova Brisbane rated so far??
What do people think of it??

I'm not a fan of Brisbane's radio market - I think its very stale and was crying out for a new competitor to force ARN and Austereo to innovate.

I suppose the whole Brisbane media market is a bit stale... Nine News aint brilliant... Ten News... need I say more? The Courier Mail is a laugh!

Nine news is better than Perth's. Which is better Brisbane radio or Perth Radio? Did you go around Australia or something?

No, I go to Brisbane atleast once a year as half my family live there, so I know a bit about the market.
I went to Perth about 10 days ago.

I wasnt impressed with Perth's radio - but I didnt really listen to it much... I think the Austereo affiliate had The Hot Hits when I listened, and Nova had the usual saturday night mix thing which I'm not a fan off in Melbourne.

92.9 is the Today station and 94.5 is the Triple M affiliate

Brisbane radio is rather safe, even 4ZZZ has become a lot more tamer since the early days in the 1970's when it was a major catalyst against Sir Joh Bonkers-Bananas Pig City regime.

We really need some good strong and controversial personalities in the radio scene here, maybe someone who is an extreme anarchist and leftie as a reaction against the right-wingers who monopolise AM radio. I'm waiting for it to happen.
