Yesterday he took a lot of calls but didn't really give much input back in to those calls which every other presenter does.

Not Simon, unless you count "Thanks for your call".

Simon usually does - from what I hear anyway. Not with every call but every time I listen to Simon he gets involved with the conversation.

Check this out...

The West Australian said:

Talkback shows a nod's as good as a WA Inc in a blind rage
Feb 11 2006

It's been 14 years since the inquiry into WA Inc tipped a bucket on Brian Burke and WA's latest Premier Alan Carpenter insists we've all moved on.

But as recently as yesterday discussion about those inglorious days was still evoking public fury.

Back in 1983 radio broadcaster Bob Maumill introduced wheeler-dealer Laurie Connell to the new premier Mr Burke.

"He said that if Brian Burke had the willingness to take on board the views of the new business community, he wanted to meet him", Maumill told the WA Inc royal commission in 1991.

The meeting took place at the home of Mr Burke's brother Terry and it signalled the start of a relationship that WA could have done without.

Yesterday, as Maumill prepared for his afternoon spot at talkback station 6PR, his ears began to spurt steam when morning program host Paul Murray took a call from a listener called Chris, who brought up that now infamous coming together of businessman and politician.

The caller suggested Mr Burke, Connell, Maumill and "the crew" were to blame for the $50 WA Inc levy taxpayers were slugged in the 1990s. "He (Maumill) introduced Connell to Brian Burke which started the ball rolling", Chris said.

Maumill stormed into Murray's on-air studio and went berserk. "Listen Chris, you idiot", Maumill screamed. "If you dare implicate me in anything illegal by chucking my name around on air I will track you down and sue you for every dollar you've got you lying bastard".

"You say what you like about Burke, Connell or anyone else, but don't try and implicate me in anything illegal you lying swine".

Maumill paused for breath and all that was needed was for Murray to find a way out of the heated moment.

"I think Bob's answered you", he said to his caller.

"OK, let's move on to Reg in Claremont".

 I would love to have heard that :)

Only Bob would storm in to a studio that's live on air and do something like that

Good on him though :)

Pfft. If 6PR management have any idea they'll sack him for that display of unprofessional behaviour. :nonono:

 He's always in trouble for something. Usually telling bad jokes on air gets him in to trouble. He's a great broadcaster who has been on radio for a long time.

I don't think that what he did was unprofessional at all - someone accused him of something illegal and corrupt and he defended himself. If someone accused you of something you would be pissed off too.

Except I wouldn't abuse them on-air. I would use legal avenues to defend myself.

Talkback radio is about both sides being able to tell their side. The presenters quite often get snarly with callers who accuse them of something... not quite as abrupt as what Bob would have done, but if you listen to Bob every day then you would think what he did was amusing. He is harmless :)

Spirit 621 Southwest have dropped Simon Beaumont's morning program. I bet there'd be some dissapointed listeners down south.

Did they give any reason? I'm a bit surprised about that, considering how many people listen to Simon's program on that station.

Bob Francis is the same in Adelaide on Five AA. famous for calling a listener a dick brain!

No not really might be because Spirit's competitor Radiowest airs a magazine style format so they might want to differentiate themselves from that. I've done a few weekend shifts down there!

I love listening to Bob Francis. Now there is a man who tells it like it is

I hate it when everyone has to be so politically correct and polite about things. If someone is a dickhead, then people should be able to say it. Most listeners were probably thinking it, so a presenter saying it isn't a bad thing.

Former ABC News presenter Deborah Kennedy finishes on 6PR today :(

She is leaving the media industry and is apparently going to have a stint at running a business.

A very talented and clear reader and presenter and it is just another loss for the WA media industry.

I did read something about her actually staying on at the station - but in some other role? (unsure)

For those who are interested, here is an audio highlights package I have put together of Deb's last day with 6PR.

+ Deborah Kennedy's last day with 6PR (16.4mb MP3)
Right-click link and use the "Save Target As" option to download

I have included her last full radio news bulletin (starting at 5:03) and you can hear a short discussion about me possibly being Deb's cousin at 4:47 too  :P

He's one of their fill-in presenters. Can't stand listening to him

Most of the main presenters are off at this time of year.
