Piss off, we have enough eastern states influence with this as it is. Hopefully the ordinary West Australians will over power those from the east and we'll see it abolished! Oh happy days :P

Well most of my Perth based family are in support of DS as I'm sure many other people in Perth are... so we'll see! :)

I agree it will be interesting to see which way it goes. I'm not convinced whether it will stay or go.

There's still so much opposition to it, but there's also a lot of support for it. It could go either way.

Surprising poll on Seven last night. Obviously a lot people who want to vote now to dump daylight savings, but if you ever read the Sunday Times, you would think everyone in the state just loves it.

I think people have realised there are not many benefits to it; the way some people carry on about how much quality of life improves with it. All bullshit. Daylight Saving just increases long hot days (I think people would have been turned off on DS after this past weekend  :clapping: ), and increases the risk of skin cancer. Stupid idea for us in WA.

It's not an eastern states influence, its common sense. I was born in the West and i find DS perfectly normal. Who wants the heat at 6am-8am in the morning when majority of us are still asleep, and it can quite easily be pushed forward one hour?? West Aussies are a bunch of Wimps.

I think you'll find there are plenty more people in favour of DS than against. :)

   That is the stupidist reason for not having daylight saving that I have EVER heard. Almost as stupid as the "daylight saving will fade my blinds" argument

How? The whole selling point of daylight savings time is for people to spend more time in the sun.

Ever heard of "Slip. Slop. Slap."? Sheesh.
Wow, it's like I've died and went to heaven. But then they realized it wasn't my time yet. So they sent me to a brewery.

Yes, but the extra hour of sunlight is evening sunlight - hardly the type of sunlight to give you skin cancer.

 I don't think so. People are spending more time in the sun. I dont just mean the light at 8pm- at 4pm we get 3pm sunlight, which is almost the peak of the day. At 6pm, the sun is still very harsh.

Whinge whinge whinge
Whine whine whine.
You can whinge and whine until the cows come home (at 8.30pm!) but you bleeders can be promised one thing: Daylight Saving will be a permanent fixture post-2009.

Ummm what are you talking about? You get one extra hour of sunlight - in the late evening.

At 4pm you get 3pm sunlight? What is that meant to mean? It doesn't matter whether it's daylight saving or not - you would still get sun at that time. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say.

I seriously doubt it.

The sun is stronger (isnt that obvious)? You know how they tell people to stay out of the sun between 10 and 3 during summer? We dont get an 'extra' hour of sunlight, its just that all the sunlight hours are pushed back towards evening, meaning we have the strong UV rays for longer in the afternoon.

I think MorningDude needs MorningPills of some sort, because something is not quite right there.

Ok, well if you're in the sun at 10am then it's really 9am so u get less sunrays at that time so it balances out...

  - People work at that time of day and are indoors. DS pushes back the stronger sunlight though to a time when people go outdoors after work/school.

Anyone who is going to be spending extended periods in the sun should be wearing sun screen no matter what time of the day it is.

But people don't. And the main idea of daylight savings is to spend more time outdoors in the late afternoon and evenings.
