I'm sure Charmaine wasn't looking at Bill to “help her out of the situation" but more than likely because the next read would have been Bill's and when the package didn't roll she was left up on camera and wasn't sure whether she should read on to the next item.
In those sorts of situations it's easy to criticise the presenter but in the event that something goes wrong the director needs to make a quick call as to how to deal with the situation. Usually during those couple of seconds the presenter is left on camera looking blankly down the barrel while they await direction about what they should do.
