I'm not sure why everyone is so impressed with the graphics. They've kept that ghastly combination of orange and light blue, which looks so outdated. The OTS and full screen graphics look messy, the weather map has a strange combination of textures, and the ticker and bars are too big. The opener too is boring, just all their faces sitting in a line.

The set is a big improvement though, and as someone else has said, it feels light and open, but also intimate. Way above that fake, poshy apartment set Today has. :yucky:

Great precis and basically what I think, though not as harsh on the graphics there is room for improvement (you are right on the weather gfx). I don't mind the opening (an improvement over their previous one) except for the fact Natalie's face doesn't animate much compared to the others, which makes her look uninteresting in comparison.

I like that Sunrise (and Ten Early News) has an opening. I don't like the jump straight into the show Today does. It's as though they are now too scared to attempt one after the disasters of their last couple.

Does anyone think that Sunrise would be willing to put Seven's objection to Prime broadcasting real HD on the ROSWall?

I doubt it.

Re the new set:

What do people think about that gold curtain behind the news reader (Photo).? I think it looks really aweful - like some tacky buy from Spotlight or Lincraft. I've submitted my comments on the Sunrise website - suggest others do the same!

Is that a curtain? It looks like a wall with lights shining down on it.

Yeah, it's a wall not a curtain.

Yeah, it's a wall not a curtain.

It's actually a column/pole... not a curtain or a wall.

I stopped by to have a look at the new Sunrise set today while passing down Martin Place and while it might look good on TV, they've sure done a great job of creating an eyesore for passers by in Martin Place. The Sunrise set almost completely blocks the view into the studio from the outside with the exception of the opening in the soft set.

The news set (on the opposite side of the studio) is now blocked from view from the outside, and the TT set is crammed into the corner where the Sunrise performance area is making every angle of the studio filled up with sets and 3 cameras and a crane squashed in the middle.

So much for moving to a nice glass fronted studio in the CBD so that the audience can see live television in action. Now all they can see is the ugly back end of the Sunrise set. :yucky:

Maybe they take down some of the Sunrise set during the day so you can watch the news being made?

I was there at 3pm!

Unlike the old set which was made up of panels fixed to a rail allowing them to be easily moved around, this set is a permanent fixture and cannot be easily moved or dismantled with the exception of the performance area which is basically just a bunch of plasma's on scaffolding type poles.

Ah ok!

That's a shame. They really have now buggared up the "looking in" aspect then.

Wouldn't they have to dismantle some of the set to make way for a fully set-up news set though?

Yeah, the performance area...

They move the Sunrise plasma's out of the way and put the TT set there and the other edge of the news set 'shapes'. The news set has been moved a bit... it isn't on the angle it used to be plus I think they've pushed the desk further back toward the set now to make room for the cameras because the Sunrise soft set comes out a fair way.

Ah ok. They've well and truly buggared up the "looking in" aspect then, it seems.

May as well move back to a place that has more floor space!

Yep! I was going to take pictures but all considering it would have been a bit pointless... all you would have seen is the back of the Sunrise sets which was nothing more than wood panels and cables.

I recorded the whole thing, but I deleted it a while ago.

It was just the same report you uploaded last night.

I thought that would probably be the case. I only thought differently when Mark said in the Weekend Sunrise opener "this morning we'll bring you live updates from the fire zone".

It is a bit random! I think they need to put the desk on one of those elevated stage things, it looks a little lost there by itself.
