Sky's coverage of Yankini the escaped gorilla was quite amusing, I thought.

Great package!

Tune into ch. 601 & 602 boys, and get a good laugh! Sky News has 16:9 graphics squashed to 4:3, and Business 602 has 16:9 graphics extended, but the text and video output is still 4:3! Get a glimpse of the screw-up while you can!

(Kudos to Jeffmister via Twitter for the heads-up)

Everything should be switched over and fully completed by 6:00am (EST) tomorrow morning I believe. This has been a long time coming :)

Jeffmister needs to relax a little, this has not been all for nothing... it should be all good tomorrow. Things take time.

Kevin - firstly, thanks for the advice though I'm generally a relaxed person! Secondly it was Sunday & I was really busy (compared to a normal Sunday), so I wasn't relaxed.

What I meant actually by my comment on Twitter & a number of forums is that a channel should switch to 16:9 when both graphics & vision are in 16:9 - I never said all of this wasn't for nothing.

Remember that it's FOXTEL who are the ones who changed the channel options to allow widescreen to be selected on the STBs.

Changing from 4:3 to 16:9 isn't an easy process and there are bound to be lots of small issues for the short term future. They'll fix them though and soon 4:3 will be a distant memory.

Consider yourselves lucky anyway, despite popular belief, most news over here is still 4:3 - only studio shots, graphics and some reports are 16:9 but most of it is still 4:3 with side bars.

The new weather graphics are very impressive

I'm glad to see Sky News finally in widescreen. That ticker is a bit ordinary but it's not the end of the world.

As Sandman says: "I'm relaxed, because I'm a qualified cricket umpire." :P

Ouch, that must suck and blow.

Some reports are still 4:3 (?), and they should move the weather to the far left and the time to the far right (and both raised a few pixels), assuming no further and immediate change overall.

Good stuff, Sky, but where are the CCs?

Wow, it's like I've died and went to heaven. But then they realized it wasn't my time yet. So they sent me to a brewery.

Sky switched just in time for the new Evening News.
Nicely capped, but can't say the same for the actual quality of the service :P
